The Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy, University of Aarhus, is responsible for carrying out both basic research and long-term competence-building, together with more practical-oriented analyses and investigations. The Centre intends to strengthen the foundations of the research advisory system and the basis for research policy decisions.

Research in Research

  • One of the areas covered by the Centre is research in research, which among other things involves, analysing the present and future conditions for research, the scope of research and the various areas into which research efforts are channeled, together with the study of the role of research in society. Another responsibility of the Centre is to build up competence in its field, among other things through collaboration with other research institutions. The Centre is also responsible for the training of researchers within its area of activities. Finally, the Centre is expected to foster and support an informed public debate on research policy issues.

Research Statistics

  • By arrangement with the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Centre also compiles statistics on research and development. The Centre supplies EUROSTAT and OECD with R&D Statistics.

The Importance of R&D for Industry

  • The Centre is carrying out extensive analyses of industrial research with a view to measuring the economic effects of investments in R&D.

Science and Society

  • The Centre is responsible for conducting studies on the interplay between science and society including science policy studies and studies of public understanding of science. Media coverage of different research areas has been the object for special studies.

Human Resources in Science

  • Studies of Human Resources in form of academic staff at research institutions have been undertaken at university level as well as at government research institute level. Studies of mobility among researchers are based on data at micro as well as aggregate level.
